Your Safety Comes First
When to seek emergency care
Telehealth is a wonderful option for simple, non-emergency needs — but some situations require immediate, in-person care. Please review the guidance below.
If this is a medical emergency, call 911
Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room immediately. Do not wait for a telehealth visit. For mental health crises, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).
Go to the ER or call 911 for:
- Chest pain, pressure, or signs of a heart attack
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Signs of a stroke (face drooping, arm weakness, slurred speech)
- Severe bleeding or a deep or large wound
- Severe burns, head injury, or major trauma
- Loss of consciousness, fainting, or seizures
- Thoughts of harming yourself or others
- Severe allergic reaction (swelling, trouble breathing)
Not suitable for telehealth:
- Medical emergencies or life-threatening conditions
- Severe or rapidly worsening symptoms
- Conditions requiring a hands-on physical exam, imaging, or in-person testing
- Broken bones, severe injuries, or wounds needing stitches
- Controlled substance prescriptions
- Pediatric care for children under 8 years old
